What Is Autism?

Autism generally appears before the age of three. It is a disorder of
brain function which can result in issues with socializing, communicating, and general behavior including imagination. The effects of autism vary from person to person. Some people can live somewhat normal lives and continue to have a solid education while others do not develop the necessary skills to conduct a regular lifestyle.

People with autism are very "self involved" with little to no affection for anyone. You'll find that many will not talk and socialize, and they find ways to stimulate themselves without having involvement from others. This is due to the lack of development in the early years from birth to age three.

It should be noted it's not a mental disorder, but it is bioneurological since it affects the normal function of the brain. Currently no one has found the exact origin, but some theories state that it is caused by genetics and exposure to chemicals. None of this
however has been proven.

Those affected by autism are not aware of their external surroundings since they are so self absorbed. Due to this it can affect their learning ability, but in some cases the opposite has occurred and individuals with the disorder showed outstanding ability to do
mathematical calculations above the level of an ordinary individual.
